Fifteen-year-old Barbados under-19 opener Kraigg Braithwaite continued his sensational recent form with an accomplished 80-ball 61 as the touring Combermere School team of Barbados beat the GCC under-19 side by 38 runs at Bourda yesterday.
In a match reduced to a 30-over per side, the Bajans, playing on the famous ground which in 1930 became the first venue for a West Indies Test victory, scored 176-5 off their allotted 30 overs.
The prolific Braithwaite, who scored his first century on Guyanese soil against the Georgetown Cricket Association under-15’s at the DCC ground last week, fell 39 short yesterday as he reached the boundary twice and got support from Daley Granger (42), Shane Dowrich (35) and Jomal Warrican (14*).
Leg-spinner Elon Fernandes took 2-6 while off-spinner Parmanand Ramkissoon had 2-40 for the home team who could only reach 138-8 when their 30 over expired.
Joshua Wade top scored with 31 while National under-19 left-handed opener Jeetendra Sookdeo scored 22 as Barbados under-19 off-spinner Royston Chase grabbed 3-24 and got support from Warrican who took 2-26.
The Barbadians are scheduled to oppose the GYO under-19 team at GYO while their under-15 side will take on the GCC under-15s at Bourda in their two matches today. The visitors are expected to depart for home tomorrow. (Sean Devers)
