An eight round Swiss system chess tournament to celebrate Carifesta begins on Sunday at the Kei-Shar’s Sports Complex on Hadfield Street starting from 10:00am.
The tournament is being hosted by the Guyana Chess Federation and sponsored by Demerara Distillers Limited under the Topco Juice Brand.

The tournament would be held in the Junior and Senior categories with a time limit of 90 minutes per game or 45 minutes per player to complete the game. Cash prizes would be awarded to the top finishers in both sections.
Both local and foreign chess players, who may be visiting Guyana for Carifesta, are invited to participate in the tournament.
The first four rounds would be played this Sunday (August 31) and the remaining four rounds would be played the following Sunday. Chess Players are ask to bring along their chess set and clock.
Interested persons can contact Irshad Mohamed, Secretary of the Guyana Chess Federation on telephone number 664-1650 for more details and entry to the event.
