Belle Plaine defeated All Star by 31 runs to win the Banks D.I.H 12 overs softball cricket competition recently at Belle Plaine Wakenaam.
The home team won the toss and elected to take first strike and made 168 for 9 off their allotted overs. Toolsie Sahadeo top scored with 45 while Macksood Khatweeb supported with 33. Leg spinner Roopnarine Persaud captured 3-15 for All Star who in reply made 137 for 7 off their 12 overs.
Oyono Sampson was the leading run getter with 34 while Khemraj Surajpaul contributed 25, Nazeer Mohamed 20 and Wayne Osborne 19.
Bowling for Belle Plaine there were two wickets each for Sahadeo and Romel Rahat.
Sahadeo was adjudged the man of the match while team mates Khatweeb and Ragnauth collected the prizes for the most sixes and the most valuable player respectively in the competition. Belle Plaine took away the winning trophy while All Star collected the runner’s up hardware.
Representative of the sponsor, Mr. Abdool Salim, congratulated the winner and urged All Star, a very powerful team, to pull themselves together. (Zaheer Mohamed)
