Bill was telling you about the geography of gossip. Well, it is starting to fructify as my Guyanese Journalist hero Sharief Khan used to say (Hope you’re well and enjoying retirement ..).
Bill has kept his eyes and ears open for you out on the Party Circuit.
*Good to see my old Mucker Odinga Lumumba at the Peg-a-Suss poolside. Recovering, but slowly, from his bad accident.
Why are he so many others fascinated by just two lines Bill wrote about the Minister of Foreign Trade en Paris some years ago? Intriguing!
*The latest Carifesta event – a bookless book launch. Bill went to Ruel Johnson’s at the Oasis. No books. Just launch. What next – a concert without musical instruments? Only in Guyana.
*Title tattle from the Presidential box at the Carifesta Opening reaches Bill’s ears. Was Kit really constantly on the phone to Gem advising her where to place the lights etc. Surely not??
*Bill had drinks in an East Coast yard with a couple senior policemen. A frog – you Guyanese call it a crapeau – came to join us.
It took two of the most finely tuned legal brains in the Caribbean to work out an exit strategy for Mr Crapeau, and several attempts too.
*Why is the Parade Ground in Middle Street so much like a bus park during Carifesta? Plenty plenty minibuses there. Could the Carifesta Secretariat have mis-calculated on demand and simply over supplied?
*Good to see Gordon Mooosley has gone from Kid reporter/Enrico sidekick to Walter Cronkite without passing through the intermediate stages. But what goes between him and the President -is it more personal than political?
*One for the archives. Minister Baksh opening the book fair at Petamaber’s Gazebo whilst behind him a mobile toilet was being driven into position. Bill makes no comment.
*Cellphone etiquette. Please do not use them in public sessions like the Walcott thing and the Yesu one too. Bill is gob smacked at the rudeness of some people. It can wait. You have voicemail. I have limited patience with you.
* Bravo to the Brazilians. That sea wall show was nothing short of superb. Lucky the GDF did not use their ack-ack gun on them.
**Bill sends his condolences to the ‘Guyana Times Two’; Slavery Gomes and Neil Marks. Both fired for seemingly not fawning enough in their coverage of Carifesta.
Bill wonders when Denis Chabrol and the GPA will issue a statement condemning this infringement of proprietorial freedom? The Guyana Times now has even fewer wirters and even less readers. Deckchairs? Titanic? Anybody?
*Bill will end with some cryptic clues
-Which “retired’ judge is on ‘double bubble’. Money from annual leave due, a judicial pension and money from a US project too?
-Which ambitious politician wants to undertake a Phd in the Presidency??
-Has CN lost his cojones or is he just biding his time?
I’ll keep eyes and ears to the ground just for you.
Pip! Pip!
