Police on the Essequibo Coast have launched an investigation into the discovery of the body of a man which was found floating in a canal at Affiance Back Street.
Reports are that the body of 45-year-old Mohabir, of 17 Affiance, Essequibo Coast, was discovered in a canal at some time around 10:00 hours yesterday. Sources say that Mohabir, who suffers from epilepsy, left his home at around 16:00 hours on Sunday for an unknown destination, and never returned home. Having failed to return home, his family immediately began searching but failed to find him. Early yesterday morning, the search continued.
The man, who was a labourer, was found floating in a canal which measures 24 feet wide and 10 feet deep. At the time of the discovery, only the man’s head was above the water.
Sources say that when the man was pulled from the canal there were several questionable bruises about his body.
In the meantime, investigators said they are not ruling out foul play, as they are awaiting a post mortem examination.
