Wakenaam and Bartica recorded second round victories as the Essequibo Busta 50 overs Cricket Festival continued in zone B on Saturday last.
At Leguan, Wakenaam defeated the home team by 55 runs. In a match which was reduced to40 overs because of rain, the visitors took first strike and made 181 all out in 36.5 overs.
Skipper Wayne Osborne top scored with 44, while Navishaul Pooran contributed 39, Neil Ramalho 21, Nazeer Mohamed 16 and Roopnarine Persaud 15.
Brian Roopchand took 3 for 48 while Hemraj Persaud and Sean Jattan picked up two wickets each for the host.
Leguan in reply were bowled out for 126 in 29 overs. Kevin Gordon and Trevor Whyte 18 apiece were the only batsmen to show any resistance against the Wakenaam bowlers.
Left arm spinner Imran Khan with 3 for 16, Olwin Paton 2 – 10 and Nazeer Mohamed 2 – 19, were the chief wicket takers for the visitors.
Over at Good Success in Wakenaam, Bartica defeated East Bank Essequibo by 40 runs in a 35 over affair. Bartica batted first and made 185 in 33.3 overs Robert Moore top scored with 34, and Mahase Richards supported with 32 as medium pacer Mark Braithwaite and Leg spinner Rakesh Goberdan captured 3 wickets apiece, while Dhaniram Laklaram supported with 2 for 26 for East Bank Essequibo who in reply made 146 in 32 overs. Opener Deonauth Baksh was the leading run getter with 32 while Rakesh Goberdhan helped with 31.
Andy Wong was Bartica’s leading bowler with 3 for 28. Mahase Richards and Robert Moore also supported with 2 wickets each.
