Dear Editor,
The Guyana Heritage Society will launch its latest republication, “Centenary History and Handbook of British Guiana” by Alfred Raymond Forbes Webber, on Wednesday, August 27th 2008, at 2:00 pm. The launching is open to the public and will take place at the Carifesta Book Fair in the National Park, Thomas Lands entrance.
The launch will include a special presentation of the book to representatives from major libraries and organisations involved in preserving Guyana’s heritage.
The book was originally published in 1931, and chronicles the settlement and development of Guyana from the 1500s to 1930. The book is rich with details of the people and events that helped shape the colony. It effectively captures the atmosphere of life in British Guiana, and provides the reader with a number of little known facts about our country’s history.
The Guyana Heritage Society is a non-political, non-sectarian and non-profit organisation, open to all interested persons.
The Society works to promote research on Guyanese heritage, preserve indigenous skills, monitor developments which may threaten the national heritage, and offer support to preservation activities.
