Sequin stood out when the Rising Sun Turf Club on the West Coast of Berbice staged their second Guyana Cup horserace Meet which was held in collaboration with the Jumbo Jet Auto sales.
The main event for horses classified C and lower was won by Sequins of the Jumbo Jet stables which fetched them a $1,000,000 purse.
The 1300 metre race which was the distance for all the events, lived up to all expectations as the champion held on for the win to take the hefty prize money at stake and the coveted Guyana Cup.
Sequin with Jockey Chris Ross aboard took an early lead and held on to the end as a fast finishing Great Memories of the Jagdeo stables, which is known more for its distance running, came through with a blaze of speed to loose by a neck. Delmur Gold and stable mate Miss Republic of the Elcock stables finished third and fourth.
The Banks DIH sponsored 3yr old sprint with a first prize of $600,000 saw Jumbo Joy also of the Jumbo Jet stables winning easily from Pinch De cash and Bad News who finished second and third.
Miss Republic of the Elcock stables won the F class and lower sprint and the$500,000 on offer from Fresh Prospect and Face De Music. Coconut Boy was again in winners’ row as it romped home in the Two year old event to claim the 400,000 from La-Bayamosa and Pleasure Star.
The G and lower event which had a first prize of $180,000 was won by Sir Balajee from Baby Boy as Sacrifice finished third and Social Jet fourth.
Vanessa of the Crawford Stables took away the$160,000 first prize inn the ‘I’ and lower Category from Sue Shuemi and Brown Boy. Cheyenne also of the Crawford stable won the J&K event and $140,000 first prize from Untouchable, Miracle Mind and New world.
Blondie won $100,000 in capturing the L class from Wonder Lite and Fire Maker.
Jockey Chris Ross received the Trophy Stall trophy from owner Ramesh Sunich for emerging the champion jockey.
Over 7 million dollars in prize money were up for grabs and 60 horses participated in the days proceedings.
