On the back of a fine bowling spell by Michael Newland, 7-20 from 8 overs, with support from Jevaughn Stephens who bagged two wickets, Police restricted Rose Hall Community Centre (RHCC) to a paltry 53 runs when the Berbice zone of the 2008 Neal and Massy First Division 40 over Cricket Competition resumed in the Ancient County.
When the lawmen went in to bat they were in early trouble losing their first three wickets for 14 runs. Their next three wickets fell for thirty five rounds at 49-6. The Police were in further trouble losing their next two wickets for 3 runs. The last two batsmen held their nerves to eke out a 2-wicket victory.
Taking first strike RHCC were in early trouble at 29-4. Michael Newland was the pick of the bowlers and when his spell was over the RHCC were reduced to 42-8.
In their reply, Police were in early trouble losing their first 3 wickets for 14 runs. They managed to reach 52 but lost 8 wickets in the process.
In the other match involving the Police against the Blairmont Community Centre (BCC), Police amassed a total of 184-8. Kenroy Henry was principal scorer with 41. They then restricted Blairmont to 108 all out.
In other matches, Albion Community Centre opened the batting against Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar, compiling 157-8 in 40 overs. They then restricted Rose Hall to 110-9. National left arm spinner, Veersammy Permaul was the pick of the bowlers with 6-5 7.2 overs. Renwick Batson top scored with 50.
West Berbice won by 41 runs over Blairmont Community Centre.
