Residents of Festival City were, last evening, entertained by the Saint Kitts& Nevis and Saint Lucian contingents who are in Guyana for Carifesta X.
This was part of the formal launching of Carifesta in Festival City, North Ruimveldt, which was established to house the foreign contingents at the inaugural Carifesta event in 1972.
The regional delegation, last evening, had an opportunity to witness where the first Caribbean Festival of Arts took place some 36 years ago.
Present at the ceremony were Deputy Mayor of Georgetown, Robert Williams, Minister of Public Works, Robeson Benn, and other members of the Festival City Committee.
The Saint Lucian dancers, the ‘Okolo Tegremantine’, performed a spectacular dance routine that was loved by the crowd.
The contingent, consisting of 29 persons, was all ecstatic to be a part of Carifesta X.
The Deputy Mayor noted, “It was a good thing to have the delegates come here to perform, because it actually gives you a chance to retrace history.”
He added that some 36 years ago Festival City was the place where the delegates would usually converge after they would have performed during the day.
