Police at Timehri are preparing charges for a man who let his ferocious dogs maul his neighbour during a bitter family dispute on Sunday night.
Rolston Benjamin almost had his left leg bitten off, while there were several bite marks about his body and face as a result of the vicious attack by about six Doberman dogs, reared by his neighbour.
Wincing in pain, Benjamin, a porkknocker, said that he believes that the attack stemmed from a problem his reputed wife had with his neighbours while he was in the interior.
He related that, a few months ago, his reputed wife, Bibi Shaziea Deen, contacted him and told him to come home, since she was having some problems.
He said that when he arrived at home, the neighbours kept taunting him about his wife, but he paid them no mind.
Benjamin told this newspaper that, on Sunday night, he and Deen left their home at Timehri Prison Area to go for a walk, and while they were on their way back, some of the neighbours accosted them.
One of the neighbours, he said, jumped out of a minibus and attempted to attack his wife with a beer bottle.
This prompted Benjamin to retaliate with a bottle of his own. However, several other public-spirited persons managed to avert a feud. But it did not end there.
Benjamin said that he proceeded with his reputed wife on their way home, but he sensed that something else was going to happen.
“I told my girl to go ahead and I hid myself in some bushes. When my wife near reach home, the neighbours drove up to her in a minibus and appeared to be on the verge of attacking her,” Benjamin claimed.
Benjamin stated that he grabbed a piece of wood and confronted the neighbours, but one of the neighbours fled into his yard and released his six Doberman canines.
“I see them (dogs) coming and picked up some bottles and start throw it at them. But he (the neighbour) come and lash me in my head with a shovel,” Benjamin told this newspaper.
As he lay defenceless on the ground, the Doberman dogs had a field day, biting him all over his body and face. It was only after some public-spirited persons chased them away that the attack stopped.
Benjamin said that, with blood all over his body, he managed to crawl to the Timehri Police Outpost at the airport, where he first reported the matter.
He was then transported to the Timehri Police Station, where he was given a police medical form and sent to the hospital.
The troubles persisted throughout the night, with Benjamin’s reputed wife being forced to sleep in the nearby bushes with her four-year-old daughter.
Deen told this newspaper that after her husband left for the hospital, the neighbours cut the electricity supply to their home and attempted to burn their house down.
“I saw him running into our yard with two tyres and I took my daughter and hid in the bush. It was not until Rolston came back home, at about 04:00 hours, that we came out,” she recalled.
Police confirmed the report and disclosed that they had arrested one man and are seeking another.
