Several of the country’s top race walkers are scheduled to match strides when the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club stages its 4th race walk in Bartica next Sunday, August 24 starting at the monument, First Avenue, proceed around the town, and finishes at the Regatta Pavilion.
This race will be followed by the Carifesta X Last Lap Race Walk on August 31 starting at the Demerara Distillers Ltd head office, Diamond ECD, for the finish at the National Stadium, Providence EBD. One week later, on August 30, the CS&TC will stage a one day workshop and photographic exhibition at the Club’s headquarters, Back Road Soesdyke.
Meanwhile, coordinator of the CS&TC, Ms Olga Harry, has made a spirited plea to the government, the corporate community and all other stakeholders to support the CS&TC as it addresses its mandate in organising events for its membership.
She is asking for donations in the form of trophies, medals and water for the walkers during competition. Harry said that the CS&TC has made several calls for support all to no avail. She lamented the poor response and has once again made a spirited plea for support.
Persons or entities willing to donate prizes may contact executives at the club’s headquarters, Back Road Soesdyke. Those desirous of making financial contributions can drop off their checks at the Citizen’s Bank Camp Street. The account number is 218331151.
