Youths in Blairmont last week benefitted from football coaching compliments of the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport.
Coach attached to the ministry Dennis ‘Chow’ Hunte took the youths, who totalled 120 during the five-day camp, through basic of football. The camp was the second held by the Ministry following one staged by Hunte in Mahaicony the previous week.
At a simple ceremony to mark the conclusion of the camp, Parliamentary Secretary Steve Ninvalle emphasised the importance of neutering youths early.
Ninvalle said that Ministry will seek to have all stakeholders involved in the push to have the nation’s young footballers better prepared for the task ahead.
The Member of Parliament pointed out that part of the development of any sport is identifying and neutering new and young blood.
At the Blairmont camp two young footballers, who were adjudged to be outstanding and were presented with football boots.
Ninvalle was loud in praise for the work being produced by coach Hunte and Administrator of Mae’s School Mrs. Mayfield French, who has provided a number of football boots.
“Mr. Hunte has been doing a truly sublime job and for that I must applaud him. In the last 10 weeks he has touched Linden, Mahdia, Agricola, Melanie Damishana, Better Hope and will be in Corentyne next week (this week). I must also take my hat off to Mrs. French for answering the call to assist our young,” Ninvalle added.
Youth Camps are also earmarked for Lethem, where an Inter Block football competition will be held in September and Essequibo.
