Free tickets for entry in all venues that will host events for Carifesta X will be available from tomorrow.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony on Friday said that almost 500,000 tickets have been printed for the mega event.
According to the Minister, the tickets, which are venue specific, will be distributed by the Secretariat.
He added that tickets will also be available at the National Cultural Centre and the Theatre Guild.
Even as the grand opening gets nearer, two more countries, the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua, have confirmed their participation in the event.
A delegation of 20 will be arriving from the Dominican Republic.
Several Heads of State are expected to attend the opening of the mega festival and stay on for the duration.
Meanwhile, rehearsals are ongoing for Guyana’s signal play ‘Legend of the Silk Cotton Tree,’ written by Barrington Braithwaite.
The play is scheduled to be performed at Lichas Hall, Linden, and at the National Cultural Centre in Georgetown, on August 25 and 29.
Minister Anthony said that most of the actors have ‘put down their scripts’ and the choreography of a stick fight and dancing is currently being done.
The play, which showcases one of Guyana’s legends and folklore of ‘Dutch Jumbie’ and ‘silk cotton trees’ depicts one family’s experience with the phenomena.
Additionally, the cast includes some of the trainees of the recently concluded Technical Theatre Training program that was conducted by the Carifesta Secretariat, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, the Inter American Development Bank & the United Nations Development Program.
Minster Anthony also added that he was pleased with the recent contributions made by Republic Bank Limited and the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company, towards Carifesta.
He said this proved that additional companies were coming on board in support of Carifesta. Both companies made contributions of $10M.
