Sherwin Glen, the 19-year-old prisoner who escaped on Thursday while being escorted from the Wales Magistrate’s Court, is now back in custody.
Police said that a relative turned Glen over to lawmen yesterday after the fugitive turned up at the relative’s home in Georgetown.
Glen, of Patentia Squatting Area, West Bank Demerara, appeared yesterday before Magistrate Fazil Azeez at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged with escaping from lawful custody. He pleaded guilty to the charge and was jailed for one year.
On Thursday, Glen bolted from police while being escorted to the Wales Police Station lockups, after being jailed for simple larceny and felonious wounding.
After sprinting down a street, he then plunged into a canal and swam over to a nearby cane field, where he vanished.
Glen is to return to court on August 21, 2008 at Wales, West Bank Demerara to face the other pending charges.
