The residents of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara are up in arms over the poor infrastructure and the government’s apparent neglect of their complaints about it.
Some of the residents lamented the state of the roadway. They say that the surface is at an incline.
“In the middle of the road there is a huge hole that some of the concerned residents filled with bricks to prevent damage to their vehicles,” one resident said. They added that the roadway has been in that poor condition for more than five years.
One resident said that he could recall numerous reports made to the village council but they proved futile.
He also told Kaieteur News that visits were made by the council workers and surveyors all promising to better their community, but they never returned and many years have passed.
A medical team consisting of overseas-based emergency room physicians, Emergency Medical technicians (E.M.T), registered nurses (R.N), Pediatricians and interns who all volunteered to do medical work Guyana, visited Mon Repos on Monday.
A resident said that she is very disappointed in the government since the outreach team had traveled a long distance to treat sick people and they had to drive through the damaged roads to get to them.
Kaieteur News understands that the road is inclined towards a trench which separates that village from Richard’s Ville, East Coast Demerara.
Another resident said, “Before we know it we gon be walking in that same trench.” Kaieteur News was also told that emergency cases are affected by the infrastructure.
A pregnant woman recently delivered her baby in her Mon Repos home due to the fact that the vehicle that was supposed to transport her to the Georgetown Public Hospital experienced difficulties driving on the road.
The driver eventually showed up but the woman was prepped for delivery by some neighbours and she delivered the child in her own home.
