Police in Georgetown yesterday questioned the occupants of a Guyhoc Park house after it was learnt that a baby was buried in their backyard without permission from the Public Health Department.
Police swooped down on the residence after receiving information that a baby was buried in a shallow grave at the back of the yard.
However, the occupants produced documentation from a doctor who had pronounced the baby dead.
Kaieteur News understands that the baby was handed over to the family, which decided to bury the newborn in their backyard.
A senior police official told this newspaper that the family would be warned, since it appears that they were ignorant of the fact that they had to get permission from the City Public Health Department to facilitate such a burial.
