Suriname’s Head Coach Jaliens Kenneth says that they will be using the Digicel Caribbean Championship (DCC) as warm up for their all important World Cup Qualifying match up against DCC defending Champions Haiti.
Kenneth was speaking just after his team checked into the Ocean View International Hotel yesterday afternoon.
He said they are very prepared and focused on the job at hand and are ultimately aiming to qualify for the finals.
He noted the game against Dominica will be used to qualify for the next round of the DCC and they will be using the game against Guyana on Sunday as a serious warm up match looking ahead to Cuba.
After defeating Guyana in the second round World Cup home and away tie, the Surinamese took a 5-day break before resuming training which was held 4-days per week. The team came into camp after every 2-week period according to Kenneth.
“We have brought in three new players which include a goalkeeper, defender from Trinidad and a striker from the domestic league in Suriname. Every step we make we want to be stronger as we seek to go higher.”
Kenneth said that rivalry between his country and Guyana has always been friendly and they are looking forward for a good game not only for the players but for the people that come to the game so that they can be satisfied.
“For us it is not important to win or lose but we will use as much as possible our tactical moments, to use football terms, for the game we have against Haiti.” Suriname will play Dominica on Saturday in the first of back to back games.
Group B action will kick off tomorrow at the Providence Stadium with Guyana taking on Dominica in what would be a historical match, the first time the lights at the Stadium will be used for any sport. Kick off time is 19:00hrs.
