After admitting to stealing a truck exhaust and informing the court that he served time previously for theft, Satyesh Johan was sent to prison once again and urged to change his ways.
Johan made his appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton.
It is alleged that on Friday August 1, at Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara, Johan stole one truck exhaust, the property of Gildarie Chandrapaul, valued $20,000. The accused pleaded guilty.
Police Prosecutor Robert Clement told the court that on the day in question the virtual complainant left his truck parked on the road and left for Lethem.
Upon his return later in the evening he noticed his truck exhaust missing. He was then given information that Johan had removed the item.
Clement told the court that Johan was subsequently picked up by police and admitted to taking the exhaust.
Meanwhile, when the Magistrate asked the accused if he had anything to say in his defence, he declined.
However, when asked if it was his first time in court he responded in the negative.
“Me went to Leonora court before fuh break and enter and me de get send to jail fuh two years,” Johan told the court. At that point the Magistrate thanked the accused for his honesty in court.
Johan was then sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment. The magistrate stressed to the accused that this being his second time in such a position, he should seriously consider changing his ways.
