The public would like to think that the Georgetown Public Hospital would be a place of peace and quite but that is the total opposite.
There is an alarming amount of dangerous patients that go unlooked at the hospital.
According to sources at the hospital, the Psychiatric Ward of the hospital is seriously under staffed.
The source went on to say that the majority of the nurses working in that sections are Petite in stature making them incapable to fight off any inmates if the opportunity shows itself.
Another defect is that all the nurses for that section are females, something that can prove to be a disadvantage.
There were the recent reports about one inmate stabbing another with a mop stick.
The mother of the young man said that on Thursday afternoon she arrived at the hospital only to be told that her son was beaten by another inmate in the same ward, while the nurses stood there unable to do anything about what was taking place.
She said upon investigating further she was told that her son was attempting to remove a jersey which belongs to him, when he was attacked by the other inmate.
Her son was beaten mercilessly by the insane inmate; the mother said that she begged nurses of that section to remove her son from there.
The irate mother said that even though she begged the nurses to open the door and do something they told her that they are not getting paid to risk their lives.
No security guards were present at the ward. It was the mother who had to run and call two guards who then came and assisted in subduing him.
Another case which shows that the nurses at the hospital are totally unable to handle the patients is that of Natasha Vieira, 21, who was strangled by another inmate on Saturday at the hospital.
Sources at the hospital said that the inmate that killed Natasha would frequently abuse hospital staff.
The source went on to say that it was only last week that the same inmate attacked a staff who was attached there.
There are instances of inmates who would get up and leave and return at their fancy. One such case was witnessed by a reporter from this newspaper.
