Police on the West Coast of Demerara have detained a Tuschen Housing Scheme man after a post mortem examination revealed that his reputed wife died from haemorrhage of the brain due to blunt trauma at the back of her head.
The woman, Annette Singh, 41, was admitted a patient at the Leonora Cottage Hospital on Saturday night following an altercation with her reputed husband.
She succumbed early Sunday morning.
This newspaper understands that the couple would usually get into heated arguments whenever they consume alcohol, which, according to sources, was done on a regular basis. One such occasion occurred on Saturday night.
According to police, when questioned, the man told investigators that the woman was intoxicated and this caused her to fall and hit her head.
However, after intense questioning by investigators, he admitted to slapping the woman, which he claimed resulted in her falling.
The post mortem examination, performed by Dr Nehaul Singh, did not say if the wound was consistent with a fall or if it was inflicted by something else.
Investigations are ongoing.
