Veteran Race Walker, Maurice Fagundes copped the top position and the Minister of the Public Service Dr. Jennifer Westford’s trophy in the 10 laps Pre-Carifesta Veterans Race Walk on Sunday last around the National Park.
In the second position was Jeremy Cornelius with Debidyal Harold in the third position.
The Race Walk organised by the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club and was sponsored by Dr. Jennifer Westford, Minister of Public Service who has over the years contributed to the development of the Sport Race Walking in Guyana.
Sports Organizer, George Barry, who presented the prizes to the winners, urged them to continue to be involved in the Olympic Sport of Race Walking and called on more Guyanese to become involved in this healthy and inexpensive sport discipline.
Meanwhile, the CSTC will on Sunday August 3 stage the Burnham Memorial Race Walk commencing 06:30hrs at the WRSM Headquarters Public and Vlissengen Road, Kitty and proceeding to the ‘Seven Ponds’ Botanical Gardens for the finish.
Trophies and other prizes will be at stake and interested participants must be at the starting line at 06:00hrs.
