The brother and sister pairing of Dawud and Siddiqua Shabazz won their respective events yesterday when the Den Amstel Fellowship staged an Emancipation road race programme at the West Demerara Village.
Dawud claimed the male 5-mile event, running from Leonora to Den Amstel Clay brick road, ahead of Owen Payne and R. Jeffers, while his younger sister, Siddiqua, romped to victory in the Under-13 girls category beating N’Kasi Grandison.
In the other results Samuel Hilliman beat George Alfred of England to take the veterans race, while Daniel Renee outsprinted Delroy Anthony for the boys U-13 trophy. Mark Miller finished ahead of Leroy James and Angus Valenzuela in the Over-40 event.
Also on the programme were cycle races from Crane to Den Amstel, with Carlton Retemyer beating Devon Bennett and Cleave Griffith among the men, while Christa Simmons took honours being the lone female competitor.
A large turnout of residents from the host village and surrounding areas turned out to cheer the participants on.
