United States-based Guyanese businessman Dave Narine made a substantial donation to the Reds Perreira Sports Foundation (RPSF) at a simple ceremony held yesterday afternoon at Le Meridian Pegasus Hotel.
Narine, who is an exporter and distributor, presented a cheque and sports equipment to founder of the RPSF veteran sports administrator Joseph “Red” Perreira. The equipment included lawn tennis balls, football, table tennis racquet and balls and a stop watch.
The St. Lucia-based Perreira who is on a brief visit to Guyana thanked Narine for his generous support. He said the equipment will be given to local sporting bodies while the financial assistance will help to offset cost for upcoming projects.
Narine said he has always assisted Guyanese sportsmen and sportsmen and will continue to do so in the future.
Perreira also disclosed that he will be making a donation of balls to the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) on Tuesday and will be meeting with officials of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) to fine tune arrangement for an all-rounder cricket coaching clinic shortly.
The Foundation in collaboration with the GCB held a Clinic for spin bowlers by former West Indies leg-spinner Trinidadian Dinanauth Ramnarine over the last Easter weekend.
Grenadian Basketball coach “Naka” Joseph also visited Guyana earlier this year and conducted a 10-day Clinic for local basketball coaches. Also present at yesterday’s presentation ceremony was RPSF Liaison officer Troy Peters.
