Looking to duplicate their performance of last year, Guyana Schoolgirls Windball team made it three in a row with two to go when they defeated their counterparts from Trinidad and Tobago by six runs Thursday at the National Park Tarmac.
When the 2nd Annual AL Sport & Tour Promotions /GTU/MCYS/NSC Goodwill Windball Cricket 20/20 Series continued, the Guyanese took first strike and made 90-6 of the revised 15 overs with Player-of-the-Match Kattie Ann Punch hitting an unbeaten 41 which is the highest individual score of the tournament so far.
Sherica Campbell supported with 13. For Trinidad & Tobago Chantel Emanuel picked up 3-17 off her 3 overs.
In T&T’s turn in the middle, they were restricted to 84-3, despite a record opening partnership of 66 between Karlene Baldeo 31 & Chandikha Harrilal 27. The two players receive a medal each donated by AL Sport & Tour Promotions.
The Guyana Team received yet another donation, this from the Department of Youth MCYS. In Wednesday’s result: Guyana scraped home by two wickets.
T&T invited to take first strike were dismissed for 93 off the allotted 20 overs and this was due mainly to a well crafted innings of 32 from Player-of-the-Match (TT) Akala Sheppard. Bowling for Guyana, Sherica Campbell grabbed 4-13 off 4 overs.
Guyana in reply made 94-8 off 17 overs with Tiniesah Cort 27, & Player-of-the-Final (GUY) S. Campbell 22.
Shayan Martyr had 4-23 off 4 overs, while Chandikha Harrilall 2-8 from 3 and Karlene Laldeo 2-13 off 2 tried desperately to restrict the locals under the required target.
Lunches for the teams were provided by Glow International Hotel, while Minister of Agriculture Robert Persaud also chipped in with a donation of food items.
