The search is continuing for a boat captain, two days after the boat he was piloting went down in Olive Creek, middle Mazaruni River.
According to the police, Azim Khan, 36, of Bartica, disappeared at around 12:00 hours on Wednesday when the incident occurred.
According to reports, Khan and five other men were reported to have been aboard the vessel which struck a floating log and sank. The five men managed to swim to shore, but so far Azim Khan has not been located.
Yesterday, the missing man’s sister, Grace Khan, said that her brother is 43 years old and not 36 as was stated by the police.
She said that she learnt of his disappearance on Wednesday when a neighbour’s son, who is working close to where the mishap occurred, contacted his father and informed him of the tragedy. According to Grace Khan, her brother left home three years ago and never returned.
She said that the last they heard of him was that he was living with a Brazilian woman in the interior.
“We just hoping that they find him and bring his body out,” Grace Khan told this newspaper.
