While the Annual Namilco ‘Wheat Up’ road race has been rescheduled for August 10, the best riders in the national will throw down the gauntlet to each other when they face off in the 4th annual Regan Rodrigues Memorial 50-mile road race on Sunday on the West Demerara.
Defending champion Robin Persaud is expected to defend his title which he took last year in a time of 2 hours 1 minute 18 seconds.
Also set to defend their tiles are last year’s junior winner Christopher Holder just back from doing well in Trinidad and Tobago, veteran Kennard Lovell and upright rider Jamal Bentley.
Sunday’s race will pedal off from the Wales Police Station at 09:00hrs proceed to Bushy Park on the East Bank of Essequibo before returning to the Demerara Harbour Bridge for the finish.
Veteran and upright riders will turn back at the Uitvlugt Community Centre on the upward journey to finish at the Harbour Bridge also.
The first six finishers overall will be rewarded along with the first juniors, upright and veteran riders. Additionally, eight prime prizes will be at stake.
The race is held in memory of the late Regan Rodrigues who was a former President of the Guyana Cycling Federation and the organisers, Carlton Wheelers Cycling Club.
Rodrigues was also a dominant figure and Champion Driver winning many a battles in motor racing at the South Dakota Circuit.
Members of staff of Ricks & Sari Agro Industries Ltd. and the Rodrigues’ Family members will be on hand to assist with the presentation of prizes.
