A formidable Guyana Scrabble team departed yesterday morning to contest the Caribbean Championships which will be held from August 1-3 in Bridgetown, Barbados.
The team which will be headed by national champion and Guyana’s lone representative at the 2007 World Scrabble Championships Frederick Collins also includes former champion Ulric Harris, Colin Chichester, William Woolford, Orlando Michael, Leon Belony, Moen Gafoor and the lone female Abigail McDonald.
Speaking with McDonald recently, she said that this year’s team is a lot stronger than the last one and reckoned that Guyana will definitely provide a stern test for all the opposing teams including the defending champions Trinidad and Tobago.
“I think that the entire team is far more experienced that the last one and as results over the last few months have shown, no one player has consistently dominated the tournaments and that is testimony to the level of competitiveness among the top players.”
