The streets have been stripped of one less thief, at least for now, as a man who pleaded guilty to a simple larceny charge has been jailed.
The convict, Harris Gouveia, allegedly stole one Sony digital camera valued at $100,000 from Nalini Singh on Sunday while the woman was at 23 Garnett Street, Campbellville. To the charge he pleaded guilty.
Having pleaded guilty, Gouveia begged the Magistrate to be lenient with him.
Yesterday, he told the court that he has been employed by the virtual complainant for the past two years and is very thankful for all she did for him.
However, when asked to explain what transpired on the day he said he can’t explain.
“Your worship de mistress does give me tea, breakfast and dinner and ah really thankful fuh it but I really ain’t know what get into me head dat day fuh tek de camera,” Gouveia told the court.
Gouveia was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment.
