Guyanese cricketer Krishna Arjune sounded a hint of things to come from the onset of this year’s Scotland Cricket Union (SCU) Trophy competition, improving with every performance to lead his team, Irvine, to the final with an unbeaten century.
Irvine are down to face Helensburgh in the final on August 10 at the Stirling County Cricket Club ground and Arjune will seek to top his previous performances and see his side to the championship.
Arjune started the competition with 35 not out as Fauldhouse lost to Irvine by 7 wickets on June 8. Scores in that match: Fauldhouse 158-9 in 50 overs, (S. Gurupeet 3-21)
Irvine 159-3 in 39.3 overs (R. Stewart 62, K. Arjune 35*).
In the second round on June 29, Irvine beat Kelburne by 25 runs with Arjune leading his side to victory with a commanding 86. Scores: Irvine 180-5 off 30 overs (K. Arjune 86, S. Gurupreet 60) Kelburne 155-9 30 overs (I. Butt 50, D. Parsons 4-34).
In the semi-final Strathmore lost to Irvine by 8 wickets in that match with Arjune hammering and undefeated hundred on July 20.
Playing at home, Strathmore rattled up 214-4 in 50 overs (N. Hazel 88*, M. Gourlay
69) Irvine in reply strolled to 215-2 off 39 overs (K. Arjune 105*, R. Stewart 38) and a place in the August 10 final.
Their opponents, Helensburgh, beat Langholm by 9 wickets in the opening round then defeated Huntly by 8 wickets in the second round, while in the semi-finals, Helensburgh punished Galashiels by 111 runs.
