It’s that time again when Guyanese can get a chance to sit back and take a break from work, school or whatever activity that consumes their time. Jamzone is once again here.
Yesterday, at a press briefing at the Ministry of Tourism, the sentiments were high.
Tourism Minister Manniram Persaud said that he is happy that his Ministry is a part of this tourism boost.
Jamzone would help tourism to grow and it adds an avenue to get the delegates involved in ecotourism, he said. The Jamzone promoters, Kerwin Bollers and Rawle Ferguson, said that it’s a big undertaking that would require a major budget.
The promoters said that they will put some $12 million into the project, and another quarter of a million dollars would be up for grabs during the games that would be part of the show.
The duo revealed that they have adopted additional measures to ensure that the event is successful.
They added that they have requested of the Guyana Police Force to ensure security is at the highest. And there would be doctors and lifeguards. A number of young volunteers would also be on hand.
The promoters said that they would not be bringing any international artistes. The Guyanese artistes will have free rein to showcase their talents.
Pageant coordinator Dessia Braithwaite is working with the delegates of the pageant. The theme is “Cultural Kaleidoscope” given that the event would be staged on the eve of Carifesta X.
To date the major sponsors are GT&T, Ansa McAl, Demerara Distillers Limited, Facts and Roses, Changing Room Boutique and Gift Land Office Max.
The prizes are one motor car, one scooter, and a lap top computer. In addition every candidate will be given $20,000.
