A Waramadong teen has been remanded to prison after he appeared in court to answer a charge of carnal knowledge.
The accused, Colin Augustine, made his appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.
It is alleged that on October 12, last year, at Waramadong, Upper Mazaruni, the 18-year-old had carnal knowledge of a female who at the time was under the age of consent.
Police Prosecutor Sherwin Matthews objected to bail. He told the court that if released on bail it is likely that the accused would not return for his trial and, given the fact that he lives in the area where the incident occurred, he might interfere with the virtual complainant.
Augustine was remanded to prison and is expected to make his next court appearance on September 15, at the Kamarang Magistrate’s Court.
