A documentary clerk at the CARICOM Secretariat is currently seeking compensation for her vehicle which was damaged by one of the Guyana Power and Light company’s utility poles.
Pamela Das is the owner of PKK 5641, the car which was badly damaged during the squall on July 13 last, that wrecked houses, felled trees and caused three utility poles outside the Chinese Embassy on Sheriff Street to fall.
The woman said that she was visiting a friend on Princes Street when the horizontal support beam of the utility pole fell on the rear of her car, shattering the windshield; and the split pieces of the beam dented the roof of the vehicle.
Das declared that, after the incident occurred, she immediately informed GPL about it, and she was advised by a representative to produce evidence and claims to defend her statements.
She said that she took her vehicle to the company, as well as pictures taken by someone identified by Das as Ryan Ralph, who also photocopied her personal documents.
She also said that she has not been contacted by the company since. She added that she contacted the GPL Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Bharat Dindyal, and informed him about her situation. She said that she insisted that they meet to discuss the matter further, but he refused to meet with her.
Kaieteur News understands that Das was promised by the power company that she will be compensated for the damages done to her vehicle, but that she had to go through certain processes before she could be granted satisfaction.
Das was told by her insurance company that it does not offer such coverage, since such accidents are naturally caused, so they cannot do anything about her incident.
Das stated that she prefers to have her car replaced than repaired. Her car is her only means of transportation to travel daily from her Eccles residence to her workplace in Liliendaal.
