ADVENTURE, CORENTYNE – A minibus driver, his conductor and a passenger were robbed at gunpoint over the weekend.
The incident took place at about 13:00 hours on Saturday at the Adventure Access Road on the Corentyne.
According to police reports, two bandits, one of whom was armed with a hand gun, robbed the minibus driver, 49-year-old Jainarine Seecharran of Mibicuri North, Black Bush Polder; his conductor, 29-year-old Navin Savory, of Mibicuri South, Black Bush Polder, along with a passenger, Philip Jainarine, of Joanna South, Black Bush Polder.
Jainarine Seecharran was relieved of a gold ring valued at $12,000 and $6,000 in cash. Navin Savory was said to be robbed of a cellular telephone worth $12,000. The bandits also relieved Philip Jainarine of $1,000.
The men boarded the bus, which was bound for Black Bush Polder, at Port Mourant. When they arrived at the access road, the one bandit carrying the gun placed it to the head of a female passenger, who screamed.
This alerted the driver and he brought the vehicle to a halt.
The gunman exited the vehicle and discharged a round at the front left side wheel. The men then proceeded to rob the passengers. The bandits fled the scene on foot in an easterly direction towards the Adventure Reef.
At the time the vehicle was transporting approximately 16 persons, but only one of the passengers was robbed.
The matter was subsequently reported to police. Upon arrival, ranks combed the scene but no spent shell was recovered. Investigations are continuing.
