Prison officials are said to be investigating the death of another inmate of the Camp Street penitentiary.
One report stated that Nolan Noble, a 30-year-old who was incarcerated on a murder charge, was found dead in his cell on Saturday.
However, other reports state that he succumbed at the Georgetown Hospital after being found unconscious. Kaieteur News understands that a relative who saw the body at a city mortuary alleged that Noble’s body bore wounds to the back of the head and over one of the eyes.
This newspaper was told that Noble was mentally unstable and was taking medication for his condition.
The prisoner’s mother told Kaieteur News that her son’s death came as a shock to her, since he was in good health.
However, the woman expressed reluctance to comment further until she had spoken to prison officials.
Kaieteur News was unable to reach any senior prison official for a comment.
Noble was remanded a few years ago in connection with the stabbing death of a Linden basketball player.
His death occurred even as police officials continue to investigate the death of prison inmate Edwin Niles, who died at the Georgetown Hospital on July 11.
Niles, who was incarcerated on a narcotics charge, was admitted to the hospital on July 3 with a broken arm and burns on his shoulders, back and buttocks.
The inmate’s relatives alleged that he was tortured by prison officers who were interrogating him about seven .22 rounds of ammunition that were found in his possession.
