Anticipation is high as the Nation’s Race Walkers are set to battle in the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club’s Pre Carifesta 20 laps Race Walk around the National Park today starting at 06:30 hrs.
National Race Walk Champion, Rudolph Mitchell will be challenged by a number of newcomers and already established Race Walkers. Minister of the Public Service, Dr. Jennifer Westford is expected to start the race and later present the prizes to the winners.
Trophies and other incentives will be at stake in the categories Male and Female (Senior, Juniors and Veterans). Interested participants must be at the starting line at 06:00 hrs.
Meanwhile, the CSTC will be holding it’s 4th Race Walk month of activities during next month under the theme “Protecting and Building Guyana through Sports”.
The month’s events will include Races in various parts of the country, photographic Exhibition, Workshops and sessions on ‘HIV/AIDS and Guyana’s Tourism sector.
Overseas participation is also expected for the month’s activities. CSTC’s Coordinator, Ms Olga Harry is calling on the state, the business community and sport loving individuals to assist with sponsorship to make the month’s programme a success.
