Strike Again, Fruta Conquerors, Sunburst Camptown, Beacons advance
By Franklin Wilson
The semi-final line up of for the inaugural Courts Pee Wee under-11 Football Championship organised by the Georgetown Football Association was decided yesterday afternoon at the Banks DIH Thirst Park Ground.
City side Beacons came from behind to edge out their West Demerara Counterparts, Pouderoyen by the odd goal in 3 to set up a semi-final clash with Sunburst Camptown who also came from behind to get the better of East Demerara’s Plaisance by a similar score line.
Also advancing to the final four were Strike Again over East Bank’s Mocha Champs 2-1 and Fruta Conquerors who hammered Santos 4-2.
The conditions were no different for the young aspiring ball weavers than their senior counterparts who meet face to face at the Tucville ground, but they all showed great heart in rising to the occasion and doing their best.
A Kerron Heywood double in crunch time propelled Beacons to the semis against Pouderoyen who had taken the advantage since the 11th minute through a Jamal Archer shot. But Heywood eased into form when it mattered for his team to nail goals one minute apart in the 39th and 40th to see his team to victory.
Camptown also had to dig deep against a formidable Plaisance line up to book their final 4 spot. Shamar Benjamin had given the East Coast line up the advantage after only 4 minutes but the hard working Oziel Small pulled Camptown in line 2 minutes later. The winner came off the boot of Jason Williams in the 25th minute.
Fruta Conquerors were in menacing form turning back the challenge of Santos 4-2. The winners got their goals from Romelo Fraser and Ryan Hackett with a double each.
Strike Again lived trough to form by doing just that to overcome the challenge of Mocha Champs.
Kurtis Steele and Akeem Sam netted the winning goals in the 25th and 36th minute. Mocha had taken the lead after 31 minutes.
