Belle Plaine won the Wakenaam Station Management Committee (WSMC) 10-overs Softball Cricket competition by defeating All Star’s by 8 wickets in the final recently at Belle Plaine, Wakenaam.
In a match which was reduced to 6 overs due to the fading light, All Star won-the toss and elected to take first strike in front of a large crowd and made 86 for 6 off their allotted overs.
Opener Wazeer Mohamed top scored with 32, and Khemraj Surajpaul supported with 20. Off spinner Toolsie Sahadeo clamed 2 for 18 for belle Plaine who in reply hit off the required runs in 5.1 overs ending on 87 for 2. Chandreka Ragnauth top scored with 41 while Tulsieram Ramadeen contributed 22.
Belle Plaine took away the winning trophy and $6,000 while All Star’s collected the runner’s up prize and $4,000. Chandreka Ragnauth received the award for the man-of-the-match and the best batsman in the final.
Teammate Sahadeo carted off the trophy for the best bowler in the final, while All Star’s Wayne Osborne took the prize for the best catch. Third and fourth place teams Zeelandia and Hogg Island also received trophies.
Chairman of the Wakenaam Station Management Committee Mr. Perry Birbal congratulated the winner and thanked the teams for participating.
He also said that this is one way the Police are trying to prevent crimes stressing that while sports bring people together it also helps to keep the youngsters off the streets.
The Competition was organised in keeping with the Police Force anniversary.
