Some 75 youths from Central Georgetown and other outlying areas have successfully completed a one-week summer camp.
The camp, which was hosted by the Monique’s Caring Hands, through the Health Sector Development Unit of the Ministry of Health, started on Sunday last and concluded on Friday.
During the six-day programme, which was held at Camp Madewini on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway, the youths dealt with issues such as sexual health, developing self esteem, job training, HIV/AIDS, STD’s, STI’s among others.
The week-long event allowed the youths to be involved in debates on various topics, lectures and talent shows.
According to Sandra Brandt, Administrative Assistant of Monique’s Caring Hands, the programme was designed to expose the participants to health issues.
It is the facilitators’ hope that the participants in turn would take back what they have learnt to communities.
Brandt said that, based on the participants’ response, she is convinced that the programme was indeed a success.
This year’s programme has brought an end to the two-year programme which was funded by the Ministry of Health. The first of it kind was held last year. That, too, was deemed a success by the facilitators.
