McNeal Promotions along with Stanford Solomon of Solomon Enterprises has agreed to promote the eagerly anticipated clash between new middleweight champion Howard Eastman and former world champion Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis for the national title of Guyana on September 27.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday at the Main Street Plaza Hotel, co-promoter Odinga Lumumba said that the two fighters who’re arguably among the best prize fighters this country has ever produced will square off against each other on a card dubbed ‘The Perfect Storm’ which is tentatively set for the Guyana National Stadium.
The occasion which saw the two fighters sign the contractual agreement and receive advance payments was also attended by President of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control Peter Abdool, Matchmaker Maurice ‘Busy’ Boyce, Lewis’ Trainer Roy Ferguson and other members of the boxing fraternity.
The remainder of the card is still to be formalised and word is that most of the prominent fighters locally have been identified to appear on the night.
GCBC President Abdool in his brief remarks congratulated the promoters for coming forward to stage the fight, adding that the card has come at a time when the sport is in dire need of a fillip to maintain its vibrancy.
Eastman for his part said he relished the opportunity to fight on the card which will be his second appearance locally.
“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to fight Lewis, who I think is an excellent fighter,” Eastman remarked. “I seen him fight previously and from what I saw, I know that I have to prepare differently this time and hopefully, it would be a better fight that the last one.”
“I saw him fight for the world title and he seemed to have good skills and I hope that I catch him on a good day where he would be able to test my skills as well,” Eastman mentioned.
Lewis, who arrived nearly one hour late due to a mix-up in timing said that he respected Eastman’s ability, but assured that he will emerge victorious on the night.
