The Guyana Relief Council, a non-governmental organisation, has once again come to the assistance of families whose homes where destroyed by fires.
On Thursday last, at the Council’s headquarters four families whose homes were destroyed, received food hampers and other household articles.
The beneficiaries were Bibi Azeema Bacchus-Baksh and family of nine, of 25 Hill Street, Albouystown; Ezekiel Jacobs and his family; and Jacqueline Payne, all of the Hill Street address, Albouystown; and Rudy Giddings and family of three of Third Street, La Bonne Intention Housing Scheme.
Ms Bacchus said that her life will never be the same and she is asking for justice. She said that on numerous occasions she and other occupants of the home would normally contact the Guyana Power and Light to come and look at the faulty wiring on the light post.
But they would usually come, do cursory checks then return to their offices. They never bothered to remove the wires, she said.
Mr. Rudy Giddings said that he was still in shock. He said that he could have lived with losing his home but not his son.
The boy, Dexter Giddings, 32, was trapped in the burning building, leaving behind his daughter, father and mother and a younger brother who is still hospitalized because he tried to save his older sibling.
The organization seeks to facilitate the timely deliverance of help to victims of natural disasters.
