Police are investigating a robbery which occurred last evening, with a Berbician man being relieved of $1M.
According to reports, 50-year-old Somdat Premchand, of Golden Fleece, West Coast Berbice, a contractor employed with DOCOL, was distributing Tex gas to Steve’s Service Station, Vlissengen Road, around 18:00 hours, when he was accosted by two young men.
Kaieteur News understands that one of the men was armed with a handgun which he placed to Premchand’s head demanding that he hand over all the cash he had.
Reports are that the man complied, offering the bandits a sack containing approximately $1M which represented the day’s sales.
The bandits then ran away, following which a report was made to the police.
This newspaper was informed that at least five persons witnessed the ordeal which lasted several minutes.
Police have since commenced an investigation into the matter but so far no one has been held.
