DEAR EDITOR,
I write to congratulate Mr. Moses Nagamootoo for his courageous stand on the banning of TV journalist Gordon Moseley from the presidential beat.
Mr. Nagamootoo comes across as a no-nonsense person who is not afraid to step on the toes of anyone, even his own, or on their bigger egos.
I have followed his career and there is much in this man that stands out in favour of fairness, justice and principle.
He has every right to condemn the treatment meted out to Moseley since he himself has been a practising journalist in the most difficult and dangerous time, and has gained regional and international recognition. As Minister of Information, he seemed agreeable to everyone.
It should be remembered that Nagamootoo fought for press freedom alongside Ms. Janet Jagan (Mirror), Father Morrison (Catholic Standard), David De Caires (SN), and Rickey Singh (Caribbean Contact).
The Government should withdraw the ban. No sensible purpose can be achieved by it. The President would get the respect he deserves whenever he demits office.
