Randy Sanchar, a former clerk of Nand Persaud and Company, has been released on bail after he was charged with simple larceny.
The accused 33-year-old of Friendship, East Coast Demerara, made an appearance before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle, yesterday.
It is alleged that between April 4 and June 13, last, he stole 51 bags of parboil and 30 bags of white rice valued at $719,907, property of Nand Persaud and Company Limited.
To the charge the accused pleaded not guilty.
Sanchar was represented by defense counsel Roger Yearwood who made a bail application.
In his bail application Yearwood asked that bail be granted to the accused in a reasonable sum. He added, too, that since the offence is a bailable one the magistrate should consider bail.
Bail was not objected to by the prosecution and was granted to the tune of $150,000.
Sanchar will make his next court appearance on September 19.
