One of the biggest problems faced by the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) in their Leakage Reduction Programme is sourcing contractors, said Karan Singh, GWI Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
“One of our biggest problems in implementing our programmes is getting contractors,” Singh made public. He added that GWI advertised for contractors in the newspapers, but few of them were heeding the call.
In the past some contractors had problems with GWI in terms of payment. It is reportedly because of this that contractors have displayed reluctance in wanting to work with GWI.
Singh publicly stated that funds had already been earmarked and for this reason there will be no problem in terms of securing the funding for projects undertaken by GWI.
The CEO of GWI noted that GWI was in the process of setting up a database of competent contractors who can be called upon to do work for GWI.
These contractors will be called especially for projects like laying pipes and fixing leaks, which carry a standard rate.
Singh explained that at present, GWI was “starving for contractors”.
