– relatives suspect foul play
The body of a man of unsound mind was discovered, at around 11:00 hours yesterday, at the Craig Bus shed, East Bank Demerara.
The body has since been identified as that of 36-year-old Junior Braithwaite, of 198 Second Street, Craig.
According to the dead man’s brother, Mark Braithwaite, Junior was last seen alive the day prior to the discovery.
“The day before, late in the evening, I saw him. We know he is mentally ill, but he never interfered with people and he comes home whenever he wants,” the man said.
He added that, after his brother didn’t come home that night, he went early yesterday morning to look for him at the same bus shed where the body was found, but did not see him there.
The man said that, later in the day, a resident of the area came and told him that his brother’s body was found near the bus shed.
“When I reached I saw a lot of people, and when I see me brother, there was froth all over his mouth, which suggests he might have been poisoned.”
He said that he has reason to suspect foul play, since his brother was attacked by someone two weeks ago.
Braithwaite recalled that on that occasion, a resident called him informing him that his brother was lying on the road bleeding from what looked like stab wounds.
“When I went to my brother, I saw two stab wound to his stomach, and it was clear from the cuts on his T-shits that someone attacked him with a knife,” the man recalled.
He added that his brother was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was treated, admitted and subsequently released.
On this occasion, the relatives say, they are awaiting a post mortem examination to determine what really transpired.
