Reigning Group 2A champion Syed Hassan in an interview with Kaieteur Sport ahead of the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club ‘Race of Champions’ Meeting this Sunday, at the South Dakota Circuit, said that he was hoping to do even better than the last time.
Hassan, who drives an EP71 Toyota Starlet trails current group leader Raymond Alli by a mere four points and according to him he intends to erase that deficit and hopefully assume the lead in the points standing.
“So far, the sessions have been going fairly good and even though I haven’t done anything since, the car is working very well and I’m confident of maintaining my dominance in the division.”
Hassan informed that he has been registering lap times of 40.7 seconds which is within the range of time cars in that category record. “I reckon that Raymond and Ernesto (Choo) will pose the stiffest challenge to me, but I’m mentally and mechanically prepared to repel any opposition they present because I’m determined to do well again,” Hassan said.
He expressed his thanks to sponsors AJ Import and Export, Krishna Auto Spares and Cartronics out of Miami, Florida for their support.
Ernesto Choo – Speaking about his preparation for the upcoming event, Choo said that a large percentage of the work on the car is complete and it is just a matter of getting in enough seat time.
Choo, who has been recording some blistering times himself, hovering around the 40’s as well disclosed that he anticipates a keen tussle from the likes of Hassan, Chet Singh, Shiraz Roshandin and Alli.
“Last Meet I registered a win and a second place and this to my mind shows how competitiveness and the quality of the drivers in the group.”
Choo drives a Toyota Starlet that is sponsored by Ideal Food Suplies, New Thriving and Tapica Juice.
