Yesterday, Food for the Poor Inc., in collaboration with Office of the President, donated a brand new house to Ms. Patricia Mallay and her family.
Ms Mallay, who is physically disabled, had approached the Office of the President for assistance. Her request was forwarded to Food for the Poor.
A verification process was done, and work on the home for Ms Mallay soon began.
Expressing her pleasure at being associated with the venture, Public Relations Officer of Food for the Poor, Michelle Branker, said the spanking new $1M two-bedroom home would be fitted with all the necessary amenities to make the Mallay family comfortable.
She added that Food for the Poor will continue to assist the disabled woman. It has already secured furniture and other items, which will be transported to the home soon.
The organisation has pledged to assist her every month with whatever items she may need. One of the items that she has already received is a brand new wheelchair from the Food for the Poor.
Ms Branker said that her organisation has no limitations. It is willing to help anyone who is in need of assistance.
Over the past 17 years, Food for the Poor Inc has been continuously assessing people who are in dire need of housing, food, education and other forms of assistance.
Yesterday’s presentation was made possible through the assistance of the Office of the President, being the entity making partial payments for the land on which the new home was built.
Kheedmat Budhu, Special Assistant to the President, said that Office of the President is pleased to be a part of such an auspicious event.
He said that the Government is also concerned about the welfare of the poor and needy, and will operate continuously in their interest.
Recipient of the home, Patricia Mallay, was high in praise for the two contributing entities, and expressed her gratitude at having her life-long dream of owning her own home fulfilled.
