The repair works being done to the Demerara Harbour Bridge (DHB) have been extended for an additional two days, to 19:00 hours on Thursday.
The management of the DHB has advised that the weight restriction of five tons between 5:00 hours and 18:00 hours remains in effect.
The additional repairs being done to the bridge were attributed to a halt in ‘Operation Transom’ on Monday and Tuesday last, when repairs could not recommence until 10:00 hours because of the heavy flow of traffic in the morning hours. The repairs of Retractor Span 8 were initially expected to last four days.
However, up to yesterday, work was still ongoing on this section of the bridge. The result was numerous trucks were parked, waiting their turn to cross the DHB.
