54 junior police ranks promoted

The long awaited police promotion list for junior ranks has been released.
The list, which was released on Monday, is one of the shortest lists of police promotions for several years.
A total of 54 ranks, among them seven women, were promoted, and these include 21 to sergeant, 23 to corporal and 10 to lance corporal.
It was explained that this year’s list of promotions was shortened because of the lack of positions in the upper echelons of the Force, due to the delay in the promotion of senior ranks.
The delay had been caused by the late appointment of a Chairman of the Police Service Commission, which facilitates the promotion of officers in the Guyana Police Force.
No disclosure has been made regarding the promotion of officers.
This situation is causing anxiety among the officers, many of whom are due for retirement.
